Carter Efe defeated Speed Darlington at Balmoral Promotions’ Chaos in the Ring event in Lagos, extending his unbeaten run in the celebrity boxing series.
Nigerian skit maker and streamer Carter Efe has defeated rapper and entertainer Speed Darlington in their much-anticipated celebrity boxing contest at the Chaos in the Ring event in Lagos.
The bout took place at the Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, on Thursday, October 1, as part of Nigeria’s Independence Day boxing programme organised by Balmoral Promotions.
Reports reviewed after the fight agree that Efe emerged victorious after the scheduled four-round contest. Several reports describe the result as a unanimous decision, while Punch reported that Darlington was stopped and the fight ended by technical knockout. The published accounts therefore differ on the exact manner of victory, but they agree that Efe won the contest.
The victory continues Efe’s unbeaten run in the Chaos in the Ring celebrity boxing series and comes after his previous victory over street-pop singer Portable earlier this year.
Efe controls four-round contest
Efe and Speed Darlington had been building toward their meeting for weeks, with their rivalry producing several heated exchanges during the promotional campaign.
The contest itself was staged as a four-round celebrity boxing bout, with Efe controlling the action sufficiently to secure the victory. Naija News reported that Efe dominated the fight across the four rounds and secured a unanimous decision after what it described as one-sided rounds. TVC News similarly reported that Efe won by unanimous decision after four rounds.
Punch, however, gave a different account of the finish, reporting that Efe dominated throughout before stopping Darlington when the rapper stopped moving, resulting in a technical knockout.
Guardian confirmed that Efe defeated Darlington and that the four-round bout ended late on Thursday, although its report did not specify the method of victory.
Efe builds on Portable victory
The latest win gives Efe two victories in his appearances at the Chaos in the Ring celebrity boxing events.
In May, he faced Portable at the Balmoral Hall and defeated the singer by unanimous decision after three rounds.
All three judges awarded Efe the contest, with reports recording identical 30-27 scorecards in his favour.
That result ended Portable’s unbeaten run in the celebrity boxing circuit at the time. Before losing to Efe, Portable had defeated actor Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington in previous celebrity boxing contests.
Efe's victory over Portable also earned attention because businessman Emeka “E-Money” Okonkwo had pledged ₦50 million to him for winning the contest, a commitment that was subsequently reported as fulfilled.
With the victory over Darlington, Efe has now followed that performance by retaining his place among the leading names in Nigeria’s emerging celebrity boxing circuit.
Speed Darlington entered seeking redemption
For Speed Darlington, the fight represented a chance to return to winning form after his previous celebrity boxing appearance ended in defeat.
Darlington previously faced Portable in 2025. Portable won that contest by technical knockout after Darlington failed to return for the second round.
His meeting with Efe was therefore billed as another opportunity to establish himself inside the celebrity boxing scene.
The October fight was the first time the two entertainers had faced each other in the ring.
Their rivalry attracted considerable attention before the event, with the two men exchanging verbal threats during promotional appearances and press conferences.
Tensions boiled over before the fight
The build-up to the October contest was almost as dramatic as the fight itself.
At the official press conference before the event, Efe and Darlington engaged in a heated confrontation. Their exchange formed part of a wider series of incidents at the event, where other celebrity fighters also became involved in arguments.
Punch reported that Darlington kicked a birthday cake presented for Efe during the event, while a separate incident involving firecrackers reportedly caused a brief fire that was quickly put out with extinguishers.
Premium Times also reported that the press conference featured threats between Efe and Darlington before the pair eventually took the rivalry into the ring.
The promotion had deliberately placed entertainment and rivalry at the centre of the event, with celebrity contests running alongside professional boxing bouts.
Efe had promised victory
Efe had openly predicted that he would defeat Darlington during the build-up to their contest.
At one of the pre-fight face-offs, he questioned why Darlington had agreed to fight him after previously losing to Portable.
The confrontation reflected the promotional style that has become associated with the Chaos in the Ring series, in which public rivalries and entertainment form a significant part of the build-up to the bouts.
Despite the intense verbal exchanges before the contest, the fight itself settled the rivalry with Efe emerging as the winner.
Another celebrity boxing event draws attention
The Efe-Darlington contest was one of several high-profile celebrity bouts on the October 1 card.
Reality television star Phyna defeated actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday in a scheduled four-round women's celebrity boxing contest. Punch reported that Phyna stopped her opponent, while other reports also confirmed her victory.
The professional main event featured Nigerian boxer Godday “Zodsolo” Appah against Ghanaian Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah for the WBO African Light Heavyweight Continental Championship.
Gyimah won the professional contest on points to take the title from Appah.
Other professional bouts also featured on the card, making the event a combination of celebrity entertainment and sanctioned boxing competition.
Efe’s celebrity boxing profile grows
Efe's latest victory adds another chapter to the rapid growth of celebrity boxing in Nigeria.
The concept has increasingly brought entertainers, influencers and social-media personalities into the boxing ring following public rivalries or challenges.
The trend has been particularly visible through the Chaos in the Ring series, which has staged contests involving figures such as Portable, Speed Darlington, Charles Okocha, Phyna and others.
The National Television Authority recently examined the growth of celebrity boxing in Nigeria, noting that public disagreements and online rivalries have increasingly been transformed into organised boxing contests.
Efe's victory over Portable in May and his subsequent win over Darlington place him at the centre of that trend.
The 2026 event was also streamed through DAZN, while Punch reported that the card was broadcast on SuperSport as well.
What comes next for Carter Efe?
Following his victory, Efe indicated that he intends to continue pursuing boxing opportunities.
TVC News reported that the entertainer said he intends to marry his girlfriend, Taylor Jasmine, before considering another bout. He also expressed interest in taking on international opponents and mentioned boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, although a fight with Mayweather was not presented as an actual arrangement.
For now, Efe's record within the Chaos in the Ring celebrity series stands on two consecutive victories: the unanimous-decision win over Portable in May and the October victory over Speed Darlington.
Darlington, meanwhile, will leave the event with another defeat in his celebrity boxing career after entering the fight hoping to reverse the outcome of his previous contest with Portable.
The latest result closes one of the most heavily promoted celebrity rivalries on the October 1 card, with Efe emerging from the ring as the winner.
