LAGOS — Guinness Nigeria Plc, one of the nation's leading total beverage companies and a key player in the consumer goods sector, has released its unaudited financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026.

The corporate release reveals a period of significant top-line expansion, enhanced operational efficiency, and strong bottom-line profitability. Demonstrating high capital strength and positive cash flow generation, the Board of Directors has declared an additional interim dividend of ₦7.00 per ordinary share.

This supplementary payout, combined with the initial ₦2.00 per share interim dividend distributed earlier in the financial year, brings the total interim dividend declared to ₦9.00 per ordinary share. The substantial payout underscores management's commitment to returning value to equity investors while maintaining a resilient balance sheet amidst evolving macroeconomic conditions.

Top-Line Acceleration: Revenue Surges 20 Percent Year on Year

During the quarter under review, Guinness Nigeria delivered a strong commercial performance driven by portfolio optimization, disciplined revenue management, and targeted market execution across its premium malt, beer, and spirits segments.

Total revenue reached ₦142.27 billion for the quarter, representing a 20 percent increase compared to the ₦118.66 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2025. This top-line expansion reflects sustained consumer demand for the company’s flagship brands, alongside strategic price adjustments implemented to offset ongoing inflationary pressures across supply chains.

The growth in sales translated directly into improved margin performance:

Gross profit expanded to ₦53.99 billion, up from prior-year benchmarks, supported by cost-management initiatives and improved production efficiencies across manufacturing facilities.

Operating profit rose to ₦24.34 billion, reflecting strong commercial productivity and controlled operating expenses relative to revenue growth.

Corporate leadership attributed the strong operational performance to a sharp focus on distributor partnerships, improved route-to-consumer strategies, and continuous innovation within the beverage portfolio to meet changing consumer preferences.

Balance Sheet De-risking: Net Finance Costs Decline Significantly

A crucial contributor to Guinness Nigeria’s overall profitability during the quarter was a marked reduction in net finance charges, which had previously posed operational headwinds across the manufacturing sector due to foreign exchange volatilities and interest rate adjustments.

Net finance costs for the quarter dropped dramatically to ₦1.75 billion, compared to ₦4.61 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2025. This sharp reduction reflects effective treasury management, deleveraging efforts, and proactive foreign exchange risk mitigation strategies deployed by executive management.

As a direct result of reduced financial costs and expanded operating margins:

Profit before tax rose substantially to ₦22.59 billion, demonstrating strong operational leverage across the business model.

Profit after tax surged by 57 percent to reach ₦14.91 billion, compared to the ₦9.48 billion recorded in the second quarter of 2025.

Earnings per share improved to ₦6.81 per share, up from ₦4.33 per share in the prior-year period, providing a solid foundation for corporate distribution decisions.

Dividend Breakdown: ₦15.33 Billion Total Distribution

The decision by the Board of Directors to approve an additional interim dividend of ₦7.00 per ordinary share represents a aggregate distribution of approximately ₦15.33 billion to registered shareholders.

Combined with the ₦2.00 per ordinary share paid out following the first quarter, the total interim dividend yield of ₦9.00 per share reinforces Guinness Nigeria’s status as a reliable income generator within the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX).

Reiterating the strategic importance of the financial results, Professor Fabian Ajogwu, SAN, Chairman of the Board of Directors, emphasized that the performance highlights the intrinsic strength of the business model.

"Our performance in the first half of the financial year demonstrates the resilience of our business and the effectiveness of our long-term strategy," stated Professor Ajogwu. "The declaration of an additional interim dividend reinforces our confidence in Guinness Nigeria's financial strength and our commitment to creating sustainable long-term value for shareholders."

Similarly, Girish Sharma, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, noted that operational discipline remains central to sustaining corporate momentum.

"Our Q2 performance demonstrates that the momentum we've built is being sustained through disciplined execution and a relentless focus on our consumers and customers," Sharma said. "We continue to strengthen our commercial capabilities, improve operational efficiency and invest behind our portfolio, while maintaining a prudent approach to capital allocation. As we continue building a high-performance organisation with an entrepreneurial spirit, we remain focused on delivering sustainable growth and creating lasting value for all our stakeholders."

Market Positioning and Long-Term Sector Outlook

Guinness Nigeria's positive financial trajectory comes at a critical time for the broader West African food and beverage industry, which continues to navigate high energy costs, foreign exchange realities, and shifting consumer purchasing power.

Industry analysts note that companies capable of maintaining gross margins while simultaneously reducing debt exposure are best positioned to capture long-term market share. By strengthening its local sourcing initiatives, optimizing distribution logistics, and maintaining strong brand equity across diverse price points, Guinness Nigeria has demonstrated structural adaptability.

As the company progresses through the remainder of its financial year, management maintains that its overarching focus will remain centered on its "Building for More" corporate strategy—prioritizing operational excellence, environmental sustainability, community investment, and consistent shareholder returns.
