The political landscape ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election has taken another turn, with the camp of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke pledging to mobilise 1.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has endorsed Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s participation in Tinubu’s campaign council.

The developments follow the unveiling of a revised All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council that includes several prominent politicians who are not members of the ruling party, including Adeleke, Soludo and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Adeleke Camp Targets 1.5 Million Votes

The Imole Campaign Council (TICC), the political campaign structure associated with Governor Adeleke, said it would work through Accord Party structures in Osun State to support Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The council’s Director-General, Senator Olalere Oyewumi, made the commitment after Adeleke was appointed the Osun State Coordinator of the President Bola Tinubu 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.

Oyewumi described Adeleke’s appointment as well deserved and said the president’s confidence in the governor would be justified through electoral support.

“We promise the President, just like Governor Adeleke had said sometimes ago, that we will deliver 1.5 million votes,” the council said in a statement.

The pledge is significant because Adeleke is not an APC member. He currently belongs to Accord, while his political organisation says it will mobilise the party’s structures in Osun behind Tinubu.

The governor previously won the 2026 Osun governorship election on the Accord platform, defeating APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji. Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji received 444,815 votes, according to election results reported by Punch.

The 1.5 million target therefore represents a political mobilisation pledge rather than an established projection of votes that Tinubu will receive.

Soludo Joins Tinubu’s Campaign Structure

A similar development has emerged in Anambra, where Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been named the state coordinator of Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign council.

Soludo is a member of APGA, which controls Anambra State, rather than the APC.

The revised APC campaign council also includes Wike, Adeleke, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola and Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, among others.

APGA's National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, welcomed Soludo’s appointment and described it as recognition of the governor’s leadership and his advocacy for cooperation between the Anambra government and the Federal Government.

APGA Says It Already Supports Tinubu

APGA said Soludo’s inclusion in the campaign council is consistent with an earlier decision by the party to support Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

According to the party, its National Executive Committee had adopted Tinubu as its consensus presidential candidate, and APGA subsequently decided not to field its own presidential candidate for the presidency in 2027.

However, APGA said it would continue to field candidates for legislative positions.

The party's stated position is that voters in Anambra should support Tinubu for president while voting for APGA candidates in Senate, House of Representatives and state House of Assembly contests.

APGA linked the decision to what it described as cooperation between the Anambra government and the Federal Government, particularly around infrastructure and economic development.

The party also highlighted Soludo’s message that “Progressives are working together” as a reflection of its approach to the political relationship.

Opposition Figures in Tinubu’s Campaign Council

The inclusion of Adeleke and Soludo, alongside Wike, reflects the cross-party alliances developing ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Wike remains associated with the Peoples Democratic Party, while Soludo belongs to APGA and Adeleke belongs to Accord. Their inclusion in the APC-led campaign structure therefore extends beyond the ruling party’s formal membership.

The APC has said it appealed to Wike, Adeleke, Soludo and other opposition figures to support Tinubu’s re-election effort.

For Adeleke’s camp, the immediate commitment is the 1.5 million-vote target in Osun. For APGA, the focus is on maintaining control of legislative seats in Anambra while backing Tinubu at the presidential level.

The developments add another layer to the political realignment taking shape ahead of the 2027 election, with parties and politicians maintaining their separate identities in some contests while cooperating on the presidential race.

Neither the 1.5 million-vote pledge nor APGA’s support guarantees a particular electoral outcome. They represent commitments and political positions announced by the respective organisations ahead of the election.
