WASHINGTON, D.C. — Donald Trump Jr. held a private meeting with Indian billionaire Gautam Adani during a visit to India last November, according to a report published by Bloomberg on Tuesday. The meeting occurred while Adani was facing federal fraud and bribery charges in the United States an indictment that was ultimately dismissed by the Trump administration last month.
The disclosure adds a layer of scrutiny to the dismissal of the case, which was originally brought by the Department of Justice during the Biden administration. Following President Donald Trump’s re-election, Adani publicly praised the president, describing him as the "embodiment of unbreakable tenacity, unshakeable grit, relentless determination."
According to the Wall Street Journal, Adani had retained Boris Epshteyn, a key adviser and personal lawyer to President Trump, to assist with his defense. While the Journal noted that Epshteyn did not attend meetings with prosecutors and his name was absent from legal filings, the billionaire's defense was handled by Sullivan & Cromwell, a law firm that also represents the president.

Adani, whose net worth currently stands at approximately $88.6 billion, remains the second-richest person in both India and Asia. Despite broader market turbulence linked to the ongoing war in Iran, Adani’s fortune has surged by nearly $8 billion since the fraud charges were dropped last month. Earlier this month, he briefly reclaimed the title of Asia’s richest individual, surpassing peers including Mukesh Ambani and Softbank’s Masayoshi Son.
